Look Both Ways Netflix Movie Wiki, Cast & more
Netflix is set to release Look Both Ways (formerly Plus/Minus) from director Wanuri Kahiu in August 2022, with Lili Reinhart leading the cast. Here’s everything you need to know about the Netflix movie, which hits Netflix on August 17, 2022. ‘Look Both Ways’ Starring: Lili Reinhart, Danny Ramirez, David Corenswet.
Behind the project is multi-award-winning director Wanuri Kahiu who won several African Academy Awards for his debut movie From a Whisper but it was his film Rafiki that made him a globally recognized name. Rafiki was selected to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Kahiu was nominated and won awards at the Dublin International Film Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival.
Aside from Plus/Minus, Kahiu is set to direct The Thing About Jellyfish and Millie will begin Bobby Brown, which is also reportedly set for Netflix.
Look Both Ways Story
Life is full of little what-ifs — what if you had pancakes for breakfast instead of cereal? What happens if you live? Do you remember your keys? According to multiverse theory, there are universes where all of these things happen – or none of them happen. And in the new romantic drama Look Both Ways, we get a glimpse of how one of those fulcrum points can change a person’s life forever.
In ‘Look Both Ways‘, Natalie (Lili Reinhart) lives two separate lives: one where she moves to Los Angeles and becomes an artist, and another where she gets pregnant and stays in Austin, Texas. Both timelines have their ups and downs (and their handsome love interests, played by Hollywood’s David Korenshwaite and Top Gun: Maverick’s Danny Ramirez, respectively). They also share one important thing: no matter the circumstances around her, Natalie must balance her hopes and dreams with the curveballs life throws at her. There is no universe where life is perfect; It’s up to Natalie to make the most of her choices. Luke Wilson and Andrea Savage co-star as Natalie’s parents, and Nia Long plays Lucy Galloway, Natalie’s mentor in her Los Angeles life. (Sources Netflix, IMDb)
Switching between what initially seem like two separate characters can be a challenge for the film’s lead actor, but Reinhart found it easier than it might seem. “Her life circumstances were changing, but she was still the same woman in both stories,” the Riverdale star told Netflix. For Reinhart, this understanding was a grounding theme throughout the film. “I think the film is really beautiful in that it shows how your life can turn out in a million different ways,” she says “You have to be open to new paths that present themselves… There is no right or wrong way to go anywhere. So trust that the universe has got your back.”
For director Wanuri Kahiu, the story of ‘Look Both Ways‘ is more personal than it seems. “The “My Look Both Ways” moment was when I was standing with the pregnancy test,” she told us. “At that moment, I realized that I had decided to have a child and [knew] that from that point on my life would diverge and be dramatically different from what I had envisioned for myself.”
As for Reinhart, she feels confident that her own ‘look both ways‘ scenario will be a little easier than Natalie’s. “I like to think I would have always ended up in the film industry,” he said.
So to any multiverse travelers reading this: you heard it from the star itself. ‘Look Both Ways‘ is streaming on Netflix in every universe on August 17.
Speaking to the Golden Globes about what drew him to the project, Wanuri Kahiu said:
“It’s an incredible story about the resilience of women. On the one hand, it’s the story of a young mother. A young single mother trying to figure out how her life works and how she follows her passion. On the other hand, it’s a story about a young artist who She does everything she can to get a break in an industry that’s very difficult to break into as a young woman. On both sides, it’s about women striving for excellence and that’s what drew me to it. Either through motherhood or through artistry, it’s about women striving for excellence. It’s The most important thing and that’s the big takeaway and why I wanted to be a part of this project.”
Screenplay by debutant screenwriter April Prosser. Catchlight Studios’ Jessica Malanafio is producing, while Reinhart and Screen Arcade’s Alyssa Rodriguez are executive producers. Screen Arcade’s Brian Unkeles and Grand Electric’s Eric Newman, who created the very successful Power Project with Netflix, will also produce.
What is the plot to Look Both Ways?
Netflix’s official logline for Look Both Ways was shared by the streamer on the day of the announcement:
“On the eve of her college graduation, Natalie’s life evolves into two parallel realities: one in which she becomes pregnant and must navigate motherhood as a young adult in her Texas town, the other in which she moves to LA for her career. In both journeys throughout her twenties, Natalie experiences life-changing love, devastating heartbreak and rediscovers herself.”
In March 2021, Netflix announced that Look Both Ways (then known as Plus/Minus) would play Lili Reinhart as Natalie. Reinhart is known for her roles in Riverdale, Hustlers, Chemical Hearts and more.
It took a few months but several actors have been confirmed to join Lili Reinhart in the cast of Look Both Ways:
